Abstrakt: The pilocarpine ocular therapeutic system is an innovative ocular drug delivery system which releases pilocarpine into the tear film at a constant rate of 20mug/hr or 40mug/hr. The system was evaluated in 22 hospitalized patients with bilateral open angle glaucoma to determine its ability to control ocular pressure throughout the diurnal interval. Only the right eye of each patient was treated with the pilocarpine ocular therapeutic system; the other eye served as a control. Twelve pressure measurements were made with a noncontacttorometer over a 34-hour test period. In general, the pilocarpine ocular therapeutic system provided satisfactory around-the-clock control of intraocular pressure and was well tolerated by the patients.
