Abstrakt: We have proposed previously that short, strong hydrogen bonds exist in enzyme active sites and that they are important in explaining enzymic rate enhancements. Here, we defend this proposal and provide evidence for likely changes of hydrogen bond strengths during enzymic catalysis.
