Abstrakt: Hypoxia was shown to lead to hyperpnea and an increase in the breathing rate in rats due to shortened expiration. The unit activity of respiratory neurons was enhanced. The activating effects from the carotid chemoreceptors on the respiratory responses seem not to be uniform.
