This paper describes the work of support groups developed to assist couples who have delayed parenthood and now struggle with decisions about having children. For some, decisions are complicated by unconscious conflicts that affect self-image, relationships, and convictions about parenthood. Identification of conflict areas appears to reduce anxiety and facilitate decision-making. Issues frequently encountered are illustrated by case vignettes. |
