The possible role of women's work and rest in pregnancy risk has been assessed in a population in which prematurity, intrauterine growth retardation, perinatal mortality and major malformations are considered. From author's data it can be assumed that women work during pregnancy is a risk factor only uterine growth retardation, mainly if the activity is done in a standing position. In cases of prematurity, there is some evidence that maternal work during the second trimester is of risk if it requires deambulation. Author's have also analyzed the influence of transportation and bed rest in pregnancy risk. About transportation and even though there are many interrogants, there is evidence in favour that long daily transportation of the pregnant women could be a risk factor, even more if it is done by bus. Concerning sleeping rest, data suggests an optimal of seven to ten hours daily, although possible risk out of this limit needs further evaluations. |
