Abstrakt: A number of epidemiological studies on cholesterol levels in several parts of North India have been reported but there are no cholesterol levels in South India where the dietary patterns are different. Serum total cholesterol in 411 normal healthy males and females of ages ranging from 10 to 65 years was determined in Andhra Pradesh. Cholesterol levels in males gradually increased up to 40 years. Females had higher values than males until 20 years of age and relatively lower values afterwards. No difference was noticed between males and females after 40 years. The results are compared with those reported from North India and from other countries.
