Abstrakt: Total hip replacements without ensuing infection were performed in 31 patients in the presence of infection in the contralateral hip. Infection in the opposite hip was proved bacteriologically in the follow-up in 19 cases averaged 5 years (2 years 3 months to 10 years). In another 12 hips in the same circumstances, without positive bacteriological evidence of active infection on the opposite side, healing occurred without infection.
