Worldwide, approximately 4.5% of adults identify as transgender or gender diverse (TGD), with up to 8.4% of youth identifying as TGD (Scheim et al 2024), suggesting that the number of TGD patients reaching reproductive age is increasing. Unfortunately, a major limiting factor to high quality reproductive health care for TGD people is lack of provider knowledge on gender-affirming treatments and reproductive needs unique to the TGD population (Korpaisarn and Safer 2018). Moreover, TGD individuals are still subjected to discrimination and mistreatment in the healthcare setting (Clark et al 2023). This special issue, a collection of 9 reviews and one survey study (Figure) aims to highlight unique considerations for reproductive health providers caring for TGD individuals and improve knowledge in this important area. |
