| Abstrakt: | Purpose: In MRI examinations, makeup cosmetics may cause image artifacts or be adsorbed by a static magnetic field. However, there are no reports on each cosmetic material ingredient. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the displacement force and image artifacts caused by cosmetic ingredients and to clarify the cosmetic ingredients that need to be removed. Methods: We investigated the cosmetic ingredients, and for each ingredient, the displacement force was measured by the deflection angle measurement method. A phantom with samples on its surface was imaged by spin echo and gradient echo sequences, and the effects on the images were compared by the area of signal loss in the images. Results: Only black iron oxide showed the displacement force, suggesting a risk of adsorption to the magnet gantry. The signal loss area of the images was greatest for black iron oxide in the single ingredient. In commercial cosmetics, the signal loss of images was observed in eyeliner and eye shadow, suggesting that black iron oxide may have a high content ratio. Conclusion: Makeup cosmetics such as eye makeup that contain a high percentage of black iron oxide should be removed before MRI examination. |
