Abstrakt: Competing Interests: S-RP reports grants to his institution from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, providing salary and research support; funding by NHMRC Fellowships GNT1158696 and GNT2009047; paid advisory board roles for CSL-Vifor for iron and immunity and for vamifeport in sickle cell disease; consultancy work for ITL Biomedical on point-of-care devices in iron; research support from WHO; unpaid roles at WHO as Director (WHO Collaborating Centre for Anaemia Detection and Control) and co-Chair (Guideline Development Group Meetings); and is co-inventor of a patent (WO/2022/229150) for use of SLN124 for polcythaemia vera. LR, FB, and M-NG-C are staff members of WHO and report financial support to the work of the WHO Department of Nutrition and Food Safety from USAID, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
