Abstrakt: Competing Interests: DS did a sabbatical at ChainCraft, which is a company commercialising chain elongation technology. LA is a co-founder of Capro-X, which is another company in this area, and a member of its scientific advisory board. LA also holds US patents in caproic acid and caprylic acid production. The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest.
