[Review of 10 years of forensic autopsies in Côte d'Ivoire (2002-2011)].

Abstrakt: | Introduction: The purpose of this study was to make a synoptic analysis of the results of the judicial autopsies to have national statistical data to epidemiological and forensic. Patients and Method: It was a retrospective descriptive study on the judicial autopsies of 2002 to 20011 (10 years) in the service of anatomo-pathology and legal medicine of the University Hospital of Abidjan-Treichville. Results: 834 judicial autopsies on 24227 death occurred over the study period, which represents 3.4% medico-legal acts. The majority of the necropsied subjects were young adults (average age = 37.6 years), male (87%) and deaths occur most often on the public highway (36.2%) as a result of a physical assault (26%). Thus the violent deaths predominated (71.7%) and were gladly criminal origin (55%). These criminal attacks were in the majority of cases perpetrated with firearms (60.8%), representing also the first origin of violent deaths. Accidental deaths accounted for 30.8% and were related to the accidents of traffic (31%) while the natural deaths (23.6%) were related to cardiovascular diseases (41.6%). Conclusion: The forensic autopsy plays an important role in the manifestation of the truth at the judicial level but also to participate in the collection of public health data, hence the interest to increase its share in the medico-legal acts and upgrade fees.
