Abstrakt: A new highly oxygenated pseudoguaianolide, rudbeckolide (1), was isolated from Rudbeckia hirta L. flowers. The structure of this terpenoid lactone was established on the basis of extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. The compound exhibited strong 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory activity (84.9% inhibition at 10 μg/mL) in vitro and the result provided partial evidence for the usage of the plant as traditional medicine.
