Abstrakt: The study was designed to estimate quantitative and qualitative characteristics of drug consumption for therapy of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in outpatient and inpatient facilities. The frequency and intensity of the use of selected drugs are considered in terms of their conformity to principles of evidence-based medicine. Analysis of prescriptions revealed different degree of awareness of district physicians and other specialists about rational drug therapy. The drawbacks of the treatment of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are first and foremost attributable to poor compliance with the existing standards and inefficient use of medications. It was shown that each outpatient and inpatient facility has its own policy of fund allocation for pharmacotherapy. The results of the study can be useful for rational organization of the treatment of patients with bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and for optimization of medical aid provision with a view to saving healthcare resources.
