Abstrakt: Autophagy is now recognized as a cellular defense mechanism that can restrict the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Kim et al. (2012) demonstrate that antibiotics routinely used to treat Mtb infection elicit a host autophagy response critical for bacterial clearance.
