Abstrakt: The inferior alveolar nerve and its topographical relation with the maxillary artery during routine dissection in the department of anatomy, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana was studied in 50 infratemporal fossae. In one specimen an unusual variation in the origin of inferior alveolar nerve was found. The inferior alveolar nerve in this case originated from the mandibular nerve by two roots. Its relationship with the maxillary artery also showed variation. The second part of maxillary artery was passing between the two roots of inferior alveolar nerve. An embryological basis of this variation and its clinical implication is discussed.
