Abstrakt: This paper presents the results of a nationwide dental survey as far as the nutrition behavior and its determinants of the dentate Dutch population is concerned. It is found that the avoidance of sugar containing products for the sake of dental health is not very common; only 8% of the dentate population shows this behavior rather frequently. Despite the existence of a fair amount of knowledge about the relation of sugar consumption and dental health, the main part of the dentate population does not belief in the effectiveness of sugar avoidance in the preservation of the teeth. As an average the dentate Dutch takes, apart from the meals, nearly eight sugar containing products a day.
