The influence of Sovol, a commercial mixture of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) on the reproductive system was studied on male rats. The results of the experiments showed that PCBs significantly decreased the body and testis weight, the number of the sperm cells in ejaculate and testicular tissue, blood levels of testosterone and estradiole. Increasing of peroxidation was also observed. The results suggested that the revealed disorders may play an important role in pathogenesis of male infertility caused by persistent organic pollutants. |
