The authors compare the results of 35 keratoplasties in 33 patients who were divided into two groups. In the first group 31 keratoplasties were performed without detailed HLA typing, in the second group four keratoplasties were made based on identical HLA-A, B and identical ABO system. In group I (without typing) the success of operation (followed up for 5.5 year to 6 months) was 61.2%. In 38.8% the transplant was rejected. In group II the keratoplasty in high-risk patients was successful in 75%, as compared with 25% rejections of the transplant. All keratoplasties were made using fresh material. The authors hold the view that keratoplasties performed in high-risk patients based on identical HLA-A, B, DR and ABO system, using fresh donor material, have greater changes of postoperative success. |
