Abstrakt: Vascular endothelial cells play a threefold role in the interaction with leukocytes. First, they are gatekeepers in leukocyte recruitment to inflammatory foci and lymphocyte homing to secondary lymphoid organs. Second, they modulate leukocyte activation. Finally, they are targets of leukocyte-derived molecules, resulting either in endothelial cell activation or death.
