| Abstrakt: | A 21-year-old white male presented with persistent adenoiditis. A computed tomography (CT) scan with contrast was performed and was interpreted as normal. An adenoidectomy was performed, and histologic examination demonstrated the unexpected presence of a mature island of hyaline cartilage surrounded by lymphoid hyperplasia. The nature of this anomaly is considered in respect to the embryological development of the base of the skull and nasopharynx. (Copyright 2000 Wiley-Liss, Inc.) |
