The leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the developed world is cardiovascular disease. The development of surgical procedures such as coronary stenting has benefited those patients with coronary artery disease. However, coronary stenting carries associated risks of thrombosis. The article evaluates a nonthrombogenic phosphorylcholine coating that could also incorporate and deliver drugs to the local area, thereby reducing the toxic side effects associated with systemic delivery. |
