Summary: Science, technology, and society is among the fastest-growing subjects taught on college campuses today. The study of the interactions of these three elements, STS looks at how science and technology affect society, both as individuals and as a whole. People in fields such as the media, the military, and biotechnology all benefit from the study of STS. From the development of the first atomic weapons to in vitro fertilization to cloning, Science, Technology, and Society looks at 10 pioneers who have changed the way society views science and technology forever. Each chapter contains relevant information on the scientist's childhood, research, discoveries, and lasting contributions to the field and concludes with a chronology and a list of print and Internet references specific to that individual. |
