Abstrakt: | Abstract: Objectives. This study aims to examine the psychometric properties of the short version of the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), which was designed to detect depressive symptoms, assess its distribution of scores and the effect of demographic variables, to present the percentile norms. Sample and setting. Sample of participants consisted of 538 mentally healthy functionally independent persons 60 years old and older, with no serious neurological or psychiatric disorder, no cognitive impairment, no use of antidepressants, anxiolytics or hypnotics who, based on subjective evaluation (self-report), completed the GDS-15 questionnaire. Statistical analyses. Data were analyzed with Spearman’s and point-biserial correlation coefficients, tetrachoric correlations, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, and McDonald’s omega. Results. In the study, none of the demographic variables (age, sex, education) was a statistically significant factor influencing the GDS-15 results, nor did the marital status (single, divorced, widowed, married) and the character of housing (alone, with a partner, with a family, in a senior housing). The study provides normative data of GDS-15 on a large sample of older persons from the Czech general population. Study limitation. The main limit is the absence of a clinical sample to determine a cut-off score and its specificity and sensitivity for clinical purposes. |
