Abstrakt: Abstract: This article tries to outline in chronological order the development of the relationship between the Hrušov Chemical plant and the surrounding natural environment which was undoubtedly affected. Firstly, the greatest attention is paid to the emission of poliutants into the atmosphere; both because of well-preserved archival sources and partly because the emission burden presented a long-lasting problem that persisted despite changes in production technology and sociopolitical transformations. Secondly, the páper focuses on the issue of wastewater and solid waste disposal from production in slag heaps. The article is meant to be a probe into specific cases showing that the relationship to ecology was accompanied by a series of negotiations (often in the form of court cases), neighbourhood complaints, and last but not least, legislativě pressure from above, anchored in the laws adopted after World War II, trying to defend public interest and public health. My research covers the development up to 1989, which is rather a symbolic dáte, not the end of the issues outlined in the text
