Abstrakt: | Abstract: More than two decades ago the National Gallery acquired from a Prague private collection a cross - enkolpion - which was both of exquisite value and in an exceptionally well preserved condition. Shortly thereafter I reported about the acquisition at a conference held in conjunction with an exhibition of Byzantine art in Moscow. Papers from that conference, however, were never published, and nor, accordingly, was my report. Still at that conference I supplied photograph of the enkolpion to Dr. Pucko who specialized in the study of enkolpia. The latter subsequently published information about the Prague featured in this issue. As, though, he has been unaware of certain facts, and since apart from this particular piece Prague collections contain other enkolpia of Kievan provenance, I believe it to be useful to accompany his current paper with a brief appendix. |
