Abstract: This study is focused on non-standardized urban toponymy of one specific place in the city of Prague. Wenceslas Square represents a space in the center of the city with an important history and meaning for the nation. On a map, Wenceslas Square is a clearly delineated open space that looks rather like a boulevard than like an ordinary square. The aim of this paper is to describe all non-standardized names that refer to this place. Some of them come from the Middle Ages (e. g. Na kolotoči - On Carousel), the newest one have their origin in the second half of the 20th century (e. g. Štrougalovy sady - Štrougal Park, U Mekáče - At McDonald’s). |
