Abstract: The study focuses on the role of financial cooperatives in the Slovak credit and loan system between the two world wars. Financial cooperativesplayed a major role as one of the most active components of the credit and loan system. The study analyzes the factors which led to the establishment of financial cooperatives, traces their development, outlines their relations with other financial institutions (primary commercial banks), and characterizes the macroeconomic consequences of these developments for the Slovak economy. |
