Abstrakt: Abstract: After the Second World War, the Czechoslovak People´s Party was in fact the only "non-leftist" political party in Bohemia and Moravia and, as such, it became a refuge for former members of the pre-war rightist parties banned after the war. Nevertheless, it could only with much effort restore its organization, structure and membership. Its political independence was limited by the mechanism of the National Front with prevailing radical leftist and socialist elements whose ideas found a strong echo among the general public. Its political activity and program principles were also limited by the generally binding Košice Government Program based in fact on "construction of socialism". In addition, there were disputes between different fractions as well as between the "old members" and the "newcomers". The Party members tried to resist the offensive of the Communists and set all their hope on the forthcoming National Assembly Elections to be held in May 1946 that were to decide on the future development of Czechoslovakia.
