Abstract: 1a_A vast majority of researchers, authors and specialists who take over information are of the opinion that the earliest copy of Comenius´ map of Moravia comes from the large Goos´ copper printing plate. This map was printed by N. J. Visscher - Piscatorus in the year 1627 with an imprint of the name of the publisher (picture 1a); it is marked in literature as KMM A1.1. E.D. Hauber stated in his publication of the year 1724 that this is the oldest copy. Other authors consider other editions from the printing plate of type A to be the oldest Comenius´ map of Moravia. Another group of authors places the first edition of this map to the year 1624, such as F. J. Zoubek in the year 1871, however, they did not bring any evidence of existence of such a map. At the beginning of the 1960s prof. K. Kuchař published news on discovery of another Comenius´ map in Wroclaw, Poland which was allegedly printed from the printing plate of type A; KMM A1.5 of the year 1664 bore the name of the publisher (picture 1b) but the Wroclaw copy which was also from the year 1664 did not have the name of the publisher (picture 1c). In the year 1967 the author of this article acquired a copy identical with the Wroclaw one. Based on thorough studies and drawn conclusions the author proved that this Brno sample was printed from a so far unknown and not yet described Goos´ printing plate. This printing plate was marked as type P and the copies made of it as KMM P from the year 1664. |
