Abstract: The present paper deals with resolution and contrast enhancement and the origin of a 3D effect in the image obtained in an optical microscope fitted with the RCH- or ARC-condenser. The history of the contrast methods (the brainchild of Ing. Zdeněk Hostounský, CSc., implemented by Lambda Praha, Ltd.) is outlined. Some applications of these methods are listed, including a literature survey about their usage in the study of bacteria, protozoa, fungi including yeasts, algae, higher plants, invertebrates and vertebrates including humans (native specimens; fixed, stained and embedded specimens; processed paraffin sections; imprints etc.). |
