Abstract: This paper describes the beginnings of the development cooperation system that exists between Arab donors and the recipients of their aid, as well as the main factors that have influenced its evolution. The article focuses on the activities of several major bilateral donors (namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE), as well as on multilateral development institutions. It also explains the motivating influences behind the choice of recipient countries and identifies which countries are the most frequently supported by Arab donors. The paper also references some of the most serious problems that accompany the distribution of resources within the development cooperation system that operates in the Arab world. |
