Abstract: Surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) is an effect occurring on matal/dielectric interfaces that cannot be directly detected. SPP is sensitive to small changes of metal surface. The article is devoted to the surface plasmons´property and to a sensor system design using SPP and a polarimeter. We are going to discuss briefly the theoretical description of SPP. The main part of the article is devoted to the description of the sensor system design, using the Horiba Jobin Yvon MM-16 and implemented measurements. Experiments are focused on the potential to detect very thin layers on the level of 1 nm and refractive index changes in order of 10 -6 using SPP. |
