MOSCOW. (Interfax) – The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) opened its first summit in the Qatari capital of Doha this week. Fuel and energy ministers from the GECF member countries have held numerous consultations addressing numerous gas issues, with issues ranging from the European Union's intractability on the Third Energy Package, the consolidation of gas producing countries, and proposals that transit and consumer countries take responsibility for creating normal conditions for energy resource delivery. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the summit was an event of "exceptional importance, importance, which marks a totally new stage in the development of the global energy industry and its gas sector."
