Abstrakt: At least 40 ethnic Georgians have been driven from their homes in the Russian-backed separatist republic of Abkhazia, a European Union monitoring mission said on Friday, though officials from Abkhazia's government denied the charges. Representatives from the monitoring mission interviewed 10 of those supposedly expelled, who said Abkhaz forces evicted them and their neighbors late Thursday night from their village in Otobaia, close to the de facto border with Georgia, in retaliation for a resident's refusal to join the Abkhaz army.
