THERE has been much debate about whether the falling pound is good or bad for the economy and business. In one respect it is undoubtedly bad news -- when it comes to UK groups taking over foreign businesses. The golden age of mergers and acquisitions may be behind us, but in a global recession there is a strong case for consolidation, particularly in those industries facing a squeeze. And so we come to British Airways. The airline has been in talks over a possible merger with Spain's Iberia for six months, but late on Friday BA boss Willie Walsh let it be known he was prepared to walk away if the terms were not favourable.
