The article reports on the employment status in the aviation and shipping industry in Asia in 2008. In the aviation sector, Neptune Orient Lines Ltd. (NOL) has announced 1,000 job cuts. NOL Group president and chief executive Ron Widdows said the decision to cut cost was due to negative conditions they are seeing in the marketplace. In the shipping sector, Air New Zealand announced 200 job cuts in which half of it will affect long-haul cabin crew. It was predicted that about 20% of orders for dry bulk cargo may be canceled due to financial crisis. |
