The author offers his views on how independent voters, which are now the largest and fastest-growing segment of the U.S. electorate, will decide on the presidential election in 2008. He cites a poll conducted by "The Wall Street Journal" and NBC which found that 43% of undecided swing voters are independents and 47% are centrists. He notes that Senator John McCain is more popular with independents than Senator Barack Obama because of his principled independence and record of forging bipartisan coalitions. |
