The authors offer lessons from experiences dealing with failed banks in the 1980s to the 1990s with the U.S. government-owned Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. First, they said that acquired assets require active management, second, holding large inventories lead to lowered prices and third, assets have to be sold at low prices to get the market started. They think that government ownership of assets does not increase value and should move assets promptly to private individuals to minimize taxpayer loss. |
