The author analyzes the employment data in the U.S. for the month of August 2008. The U.S. economy is said to have suffered the eighth consecutive month of decline with another 84,000 jobs lost in August, and revised data indicated an additional 58,000 jobs lost in the two prior months. It notes that the U.S. economy has suffered a net decline of 605,000 jobs in 2008, an average loss of 76,000 jobs monthly. Also noted is the unexpected rise of unemployment rate, which reached a five-year high of 6.1 percent in August. |
