Timmy Murphy, an able deputy for the injured Tony McCoy. TWO of Britain's leading Champion Hurdle hopes clash in the Haydock trial for that event and STRAW BEAR looks the one on the way up. Chief rival Afsoun won last year's running in similar conditions and went on to do best of the home team when third in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Straw Bear was pulled up there after bursting a blood vessel, but after finishing three-quarters of a length behind the fitter Afsoun when sixth on his reappearance at Cheltenham, he returned to his best when beating the enigmatic Harchibald in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.
