The article reports that the government of Iraq has awarded $1.1 billion in contracts for construction of large electric power plants to companies from Iran and China. The contracts have distressed U.S. military commanders in Iraq, who are concerned Iranian commercial interests in that country could disguise military activity in support of insurgent forces. |
