The article reports that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has left the Republican party and will govern as an independent. Bloomberg left the Democratic party before running for mayor in 2001. He has been increasingly critical of both parties. The decision has fueled speculation Bloomberg might become an independent candidate for President in 2008. He could finance a campaign entirely through his great personal wealth. |
