The article examines Geisinger Health System, a Pennsylvania hospital group that offers patients and insurers a warranty on its surgical procedures. Geisinger charges a flat fee for surgery and a 90-day postoperative period, and promises to issue no bills for further care related to the surgery. Geisinger states the program has resulted in shorter hospital stays and stronger recoveries by patients. Other hospitals and health insurers have yet to duplicate the program. |
