The author discusses the Mobil Economy Run, a coast-to-coast event that took place from 1936-68 and helped to determine honest mileage numbers, and reflects on his experiences participating as a driver in the event in 1964; the author finished third in his class. An overview of the event is presented. The author also references the event in a brief examination of current mileage statistics in 2006, suggesting a revival of the competition might be a good idea. |
