Abstrakt: The article reports that tribal leaders in Afghanistan's Helmand Province have struck their own cease-fire deal with the Taliban. The deal was negotiated by the local governor and has been welcomed by residents as a respite from the violence and battles between British and Taliban forces. The federal government is wary of similar negotiations, which some say amount to capitulation with the Taliban and erase the years of work towards democracy and autonomy since the 2001 American invasion.
