Abstrakt: The article presents information on the reductions in the energy budget proposed by Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Samuel W. Bodman, for the fiscal year 2007. He called the proposed reductions a tough choice. The members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee criticized him for proposing cuts in coal research, oil and gas research and development and other energy efficiency funding. Bodman proposed increases for scientific research and some renewable energy programs, coupled with new funding aimed at expanding global nuclear production and recycling spent nuclear fuel.
