The article presents information on Jacobs Assay Office, the oldest family business of Tucson, Arizona. It was not certain that Jacobs Assay Office would survive to become Tucson's oldest family business. Assay is the science of analyzing rocks to define the presence, quality and amount of metals they contain. The report by the assayer and the market price of metals consider if ore is worth mining.
