The newly expanded BMO Centre at Stampede Park in Calgary has officially opened its doors, making it the largest convention center in Western Canada. The $500 million expansion project has doubled the center's rentable space and increased its total occupancy to 33,000. The project was funded by the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, and The City of Calgary. The expansion aims to transform Calgary into a premier destination for global events, boosting the city's economy and enhancing its cultural and entertainment landscape. Over 500 conventions and events have already been booked post-opening, with an estimated economic impact of over $100 million per year for Calgary. The expansion includes new exhibition space, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and a central gathering area called the Exchange. The exterior features a public art piece, a Grand Staircase, a Pavilion arm with programmable LED lights, and greenspace on the Great Lawn. The expansion has been praised for its architectural design and its ability to foster connections among attendees. The BMO Centre is expected to reshape the East Village and solidify Calgary's role on the global events stage. [Extracted from the article] |
