Abstrakt: Oregon has a high glass bottle recycling rate due to the state's Bottle Bill, which requires beverage distributors to reimburse grocery stores for bottle refunds. The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) collects and sorts glass bottles and cans, but does not collect glass without a deposit, which may end up in landfills. Glass recycling has environmental benefits but also requires energy and emits toxic pollution. Oregon's glass recycling infrastructure is advanced, but not all residents have convenient access. The Recycling Modernization Act (RMA) will improve recycling consistency in Oregon by requiring producer-responsibility organizations to ensure packaging materials are recycled responsibly. The OBRC has launched a successful refillable bottle program for beer, and a new venture called Revino plans to introduce a refillable wine bottle program in 2024, reducing carbon emissions and offering financial benefits for wineries.
